Ho'oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. It is defined in the Hawaiian Dictionary as "mental cleansing: family conferences in which relationships were set right through prayer, discussion, confession, repentance, and mutual restitution and forgiveness." The word Ho'oponopono is made up of two parts "Ho'o" (to make) and pono (right). Ponopono means to be doubly right with self and others. As a practitioner of Ho'oponopono, I can testify that the benefits are amazing.
History of Ho'oponopono
In Ancient Hawaii, it was a practice of extended family members meeting to "make right" broken family relations. Sometimes this was done daily or weekly, to prevent problems erupting in the family. They would also meet when a person became ill, believing that illness was caused by the stress of anger, guilt, recriminations and a lack of forgiveness.
The

process of Ho'oponopono we practice now was developed by Morrnah Simeona, a Kahuna Lapa'au (healer).
Morrnah was a practitioner of lomilomi mediation and through Divine inspiration, she began to modify the
traditional Hawaiian forgiveness and reconciliation process to what we practice today. Her system uses
Ho'oponpono techniques to create a working partnership between the parts of the mind (or self) - the
subconscious, conscious and superconscious.
In 2005 Dr. Joe Vitale wrote an article about Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, a student who worked closely with Morrnah. This article brought great attention to Dr. Hew Len and the Ho'oponopono community. Dr. Hew Len and Dr. Vitale
continue to share and teach the power of Ho'oponopono, worldwide through numerous workshops and events.
The Basics of Ho'oponopono:
The simplicity of Ho'oponopono may make you question its effectiveness, but it is a very powerful and profound tool in self-development and healing.
The basic premise of Ho'oponopono teaches us that we are all connected, and therefore are 100% responsible for our life. What we experience, our challenges, our relationships, everything is actually within us and we are responsible for it. This is probably the hardest to grasp because blame is far easier than total responsibility. During my training, Dr. Hew Len explained it this way - "Who is always present when you have a problem?.... You are! You are always there when you have a problem or an issue arises, therefore you are responsible for that issue or problem."

The Ho'oponopono prayer - The prayer involves four very powerful phrases that are repeated: "I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you". By saying these words repetitively you are connecting your own inner light with the light of The Source that connects us all and removing or "cleaning" any negative beliefs, patterns, and memories held within your conscious and subconscious that is affecting your inner and outer worlds.
The Benefits of Practicing Ho'oponopono:
Ho'oponopono is a daily practice, and the benefits are amazing:
Reduction of stress
Improvements in both physical and mental health
Improvements in relationships
Clarity and focus
A deeper understanding of self and improves your inner strength
It enables you to effectively cope with negative thoughts and feelings, thus minimize negativity and think more positively.
